Other then the new moves, a lot of the game is more of a refinement than a reinvention of the series. And Crash also gets his own equivalent of Mario’s stomp attack, but in keeping with the Bandicoot’s sense of humor, Crash falls flat on his face, in contrast to Mario’s fancier acrobatics. Jumping while crouching or sliding gives Crash a higher and longer jump, respectively. But Crash has some new moves this time around. The core gameplay remains the same: Crash still jumps and spins his way through levels, which are presented in 2.5D. Crash Bandicoot 2 now feels closer to the proper realization of what Naughty Dog was trying to achieve when they created the Playstation’s original mascot.Ĭrash Bandicoot 2 takes the assets of the first game, and polishes them while also giving the formula more depth. The original Crash Bandicoot has its place in history, but many of its aspects now feel archaic. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back was not only better than its predecessor back in its day, but the years have only magnified what an improvement it really was. For every 5 you get, a secret level opens up which you can access later in the game.What a difference one sequel can make. Relics: Get relics by completing the time trials for each level. The colored gems require a bit more work to find. Clear gems are hidden in levels, or recieved from smashing all crates. Get them in each of the regular levels to complete the game. Aku Aku: When you have the mask, you can take one extra hit before dying. Wumpa Fruit: Fruits that are lying around throughout the levels. Invisibility Crate: Crash becomes invisible for a short amount of time after smashing this crate. Time Box: Only seen in Time Trial mode, they freeze the clock for the amount seen on the side of the box. Steel Crate: Pretty strong crates, just use a body slam on them to smash them. Iron Spring Crate: Same as the Spring crate, although it can't be destroyed. Spring Crate: Crates with that extra bounce. Nitro Switch Box: These will set off all the Nitro crates in the level. Nitro Crate: Bright green, and very deadly. Switch Box: Used to activate Outline boxes. ![]() Outline Box: Invisible boxes until activated by the Switch box. If you take too long, it will turn into a Iron crate. Slot Box: These boxes change types faster and faster. If you spin them or do some other attack besides jumping, you will destroy it, which in turn will kill you. TNT Crate: Jump on top to start the 3 second fuse. Smash them to restart from that area if you die. Checkpoint Crate: Crates marked with a large "C". Three gives you a brief moment of invicibility. ![]() Two Aku Aku boxes smashed will give you two hits. Who knows what will be inside! Aku Aku Box: Aku Aku will assist you if you smash this crate. Suprise Box: Exactly as it is said, a suprise box. Bouncy Box: These boxes allow you to bounce on them various times before they break. In bonus levels, you do not lose lives for dying.Ĭrate: Just a regular old crate with Wumpa fruit inside. Getting all 25 Crystals opens up the Secret Hub. Death Routes are only accessible if you have not died in a level. General Information Relic colors do not effect overall percentage. + OR + : Super Belly flop (Replaces Body Slam).
